Michael Seltzer, who has been active in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector since 1968, is the Partner in Charge of Philanthropic Services at Rabin Strategic Partners, a management communications and public policy consulting firm. Prior to that he was President of the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers (NYRAG) and a member of the National Advisory Committee of New Ventures in Philanthropy. NYRAG, now known as Philanthropy New York, is a nonprofit membership organization of more than 270 grant making foundations and corporations in the New York metropolitan area, whose members contribute more than $3.5 billion each year in grants across the New York metropolitan area, the nation, and the world.
During his over 40-year career, he has worked at a number of foundations including the Ford Foundation, where he was the program officer in charge of strengthening and advancing organized philanthropy worldwide, and numerous nonprofit organizations. He directed Business Enterprises for Sustainable Travel, a corporate citizenship initiative of the Conference Board, a executive director of Funders Concerned About AIDS, which mobilized the philanthropic community in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Mr. Seltzer is also a past chair of the Nonprofit Management Program of the New School University's Robert J. Milano School of Management and Urban Policy.
His award-winning book, Securing Your Organization's Future: A Complete Guide to Fundraising Strategies (Foundation Center, 1987), is one of the premier texts on building support for nonprofit organizations. Seltzer is also the author of many articles about the nonprofit sector.
A native of New York City an a graduate of the Bronx High School for Science, Seltzer received his B.A. in International Relations and African Studies at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
