Тhis is the thirteenth volume of Studies in Income and Wealth, published by the National Bureau of Economic Research for the Conference on Research in Income and Wealth, is made up of papers presented at the 1949 meeting of the Conference. All deal with some aspect of the size distribution of income.

In 1946-1948 there was a strong relation between buying durable goods and dissaving. For instance, half of the units who spent $1000 or more for durable goods dissaved in 1947; but of those who either did not purchased any durable goods or spent less than $200 on them, only 22% dissaved. Since income increases are asssociated with purchases of durable goods, they may be associated also with dissaving.
